Group travel for a week can be difficult to procure, but given the advanced timeframes I would have expected economy flights with one checked bag or at least a carry-on bag — umm no. Basic economy. On top of buying your uniform shorts, skirts and shoes (to wear once), you also have to pay your own baggage fees. Not to have the hotel continental/light breakfast available for the kids as it was for other hotel guests was ridiculous given the price point for the trip. That’s right, the week-long package includes one on-your-own buffet meal and no shared experience to eat and bond as a whole choir. While some kids had fun being in a new place, the sight seeing on Day 1 was counter-productive for most. After traveling, getting in late at night and the security meeting before bed, leaving at 7:30 the next morning in a timezone 3-6 hours earlier than one’s own leads to lots of snoozing on the bus. This was followed by 2 days each with 12 hours of unscheduled free time. It seems putting the sightseeing between those free days would have been much better. Hawaii hosts conferences and festivals on a regular basis. Why is the Honor Choir not singing for a deliberate audience at an event? The plan here was to show up sing a couple songs head down the road sing a couple more - at least put a can out to accept donations as other street artists do. The choir performed only for the parents traveling with the group and a few other people that were simply passing by with the exception of crashing two regularly scheduled worship services. Not that reminding kids that God knows what they are doing is necessarily wrong, just too bad it was on the last day. Rumor had it that nightly room checks did not prevent kids from sneaking out afterwards and staying out all hours as well. Nor did they deter kids from bringing newly met individuals to their shared rooms for physical entertainment during the over-abundant free time. Not to even mention the explicit and sexist overtures heard in the lobby from some attendees. If your child goes, strongly consider attending as well, and certainly do not allow your child to be the “adult” roomed with underage roommates. They should not have to tolerate nor be responsible for others’ inappropriate behaviors. There seemed to be more tension and disagreement between program leaders than we would have ever expected instead of settling things in advance and presenting a unified front. Opportunities to perform were lost to woke perception and time management. This along with often inaudible directions and inconsistent messaging were the most disappointing factors of the trip. But hey, it was in Hawaii and that 20 foot wide strip of sand that separates the water from the bustling, downtown, big city is worth it to some folks. So if that appeals to you ok, just know you're mostly on you own.

Everything was taken care of and there was no hassle. My son had a wonderful experience and made lots of new friends. Made so many memories. He enjoyed singing in the old church. Thank you for an amazing experience.

What a fantastic time. There is my husband, my 16-year-old son and me. He was part of the honor choir. We didn't see him very much. He did his thing. We did our thing. We did the tours that they was provided part of the the trip. We went to some different restaurants just down the street is McDonald's. There's a Starbucks. Starbucks is cheaper in Hawaii than on the mainland. The hotel is an older hotel but it's fantastic. It has shampoo, conditioner, body wash, lotion, all provided. Overall, it was a great experience. My son is already planning on coming again next year
